Engineered Materials Solutions will begin closing its Hamburg, Pennsylvania metal manufacturing plant starting January 2, according to a WARN notice filed with the state. As the plant closes, 58 workers will be laid off, with layoffs to continue through October 31, 2026 as the plant closes permanently.
According to the company’s website, Engineered Materials Solutions acquired the Berks County plant, formerly a headquarters for Hood & Co., in 2008. It currently fabricates and assembles thermostatic bimetal parts for electrical, automotive and industrial use.
Aside from its Hamburg location, EMS also operates in Attleboro, Massachusetts; as EMS Thin Metal Parts in Colorado Springs, Colorado and as Wickeder Group Asia Company Ltd. in Jiangsu Province and Shanghai, China.
