The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is a tactical airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft that has been used by the U.S. Navy for over 50 years -- and now by the French, Japanese, and several other defense programs, too. The current version, debuting in 2007, and its counterpart the C-2 Greyhound, are the only propeller-driven aircraft that operate from U.S. Navy aircraft carriers.

CPI Aerostructures Inc. has a new contract from Northrop Grumman Corporation to produce and deliver outer wing panel kits for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye – a renewal of an ongoing supply program for that twin-turboprop aircraft used in tactical airborne early warning systems. The manufacturer indicated the new work order is worth $10.59 million.

The E-2 Hawkeye is the fourth generation of an aircraft designed over 50 years ago, and first appeared in 2007. It was the first aircraft developed specifically for airborne early warning, not modified from other airframe designs.

CPI Aero is an Edgewood, N.Y., manufacturer of structural aircraft parts for fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters in the commercial and defense markets. In addition to the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye program, it supplies structural parts for Boeing’s A-10 Thunderbolt attack jet, the Gulfstream G650, the United Technologies UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, and several more. Including the new Northrup Grumman assignment, CPI Aero has recorded nearly $102 million in new work orders during 2013.

CPI Aero has produced outer wing panel kits for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye and the similar C-2A Greyhound aircraft since June 2008. The total value of the kits for the E-2D is approximately $66.3 million, the producer said.
