Toyoda Machinery USA is now offering horizontal machining centers that the company says provide the cutting power of a boxway machine with 20 percent quicker feedrates. Toyoda's FH-SX HMCs feature 40-hp, 6,000-rpm spindles that the company says use ballscrews and motors on each side of the spindles to double the driving force of the Y axes. The SX Series software protects against thermal growth in the ballscrew with automatic compensation. Toyoda says it redesigned the machining centers' columns to maximize tool life performance by supporting spindlecutting power and to maintain accuracy in hard, ferrous materials. www.toyodausa.com
