Graphic enhancements in VISI 2016 R1 include geometry selection by ‘free-shape’ brush. The developers claim user efficiency continues to be its focus for product development, with CAD developments that include significant picking and sketching enhancements, associativity improvements for 3D dimensions, a redesigned part revision manager, and multiple plotview updates.
Improved Cooling Channel Management
VISI Mold developments include improved cooling channel management with support for solid groups, CAD transformations, and updated catalogue components, such as plugs, connectors and baffles. Additional enhancements include a new tool to produce lubrication grooves and a rewritten database tool to manage and edit the 3D standard element libraries.
Improved Part Replacement
For sheet metal stamping processes, VISI Progress updates include improvements to the part replacement for 3D strip design, the ability to manage multiple strip designs within the same project, and the option for defining families of punches as instances; allowing for automatic updates of geometry if the parent punch is modified.
CAD/CAM for Sheet Metal
Vero Software also develops the Radan program for sheet metal forming, the latest release of which contains “major technological steps” to improve CAD/CAM, Radbend, Radm-ax and Radtube functions. The newest CAD/CAM module includes major updates to the interactive auto-tooling functions, support for the latest 2D/3D file formats, new side-panel analysis functions; and open-profile lead-ins.
Updated CAM for 2D, 3D Milling, Wire EDM
VISI 2016 R1 includes 2D enhancements for speed (especially on complex patterns), a final-clearance milling path for zig-zag toolpaths, and better linking for pocketing operations. For 3D machining operations, the user interface has been simplified to help define the geometry piece, stock and additional faces. An updated CAM engine achieves better memory management, allowing VISI to run multithreads for a single toolpath calculation. Wire EDM developments include 64Bit engine support, improved 4-axis offset support, and feature recognition for constant tapered apertures.
High-Sped 3D Viewer
Relatedly, Vero Software recently rolled out a new high-speed 3D viewer that directly displays and evaluates 3D CAD files without the need for the original CAD application. PartXplore can open the native files of Edgecam, VISI, and WorkNC, with further brands in the Vero portfolio expected to follow suit in 2016 R2. PartXplore was created to efficiently import and analyze all file types and sizes at high speed. It often takes less than half the time to open a file compared to the original CAD application.
Raising the Game for Non-Experts
PartXplore functions make it possible for non-expert CAD users to operate with proficiency using predefined selection modes, such as points, 2D entities, planes, and surfaces. Measurements can be automatically included as entities and anchored to characteristic points of the part. Other functions accelerate the annotation, analysis, and updating steps; make “timeline animations” available; provide dynamic collision detection; and simplify documentation with screen captures.
Better Analytics in the CNC Simulator
Other CAM improvements in VISI 2016 R1 include improved analytic material removal, updated stock/model comparison, and a new ‘toolpath enquirer’ tool that allows the operator to analyze the underlying toolpath data and search for geometry, such as elements shorter than a given length or vertical arcs.
Time-Saving Turning Option
Vero Sofware Edgecam series is a program for CNC programming. The latest, Edgecam 2016 R1, contains over 30 new and enhanced items of CAD and CAM functionality for milling, turning, and wire EDM. Turning operations will benefit from a new time-saving Pre-Finish Plunge option found in the Finishing Grooving cycle. A single plunge cut is generated at the center of a groove feature, and the cycle then continues to finish the feature in the usual way. As this removes most of the material, it does away with the need for a Rough Grooving cycle.
Reducing Users’ CAD/CAM Time
New programming developments from Vero Software – in its Alphacam series, for multi-axis milling and turning in materials like wood, stone, and composites — focus on automation, reducing users’ CAD/CAM time. The new Automation Manager means 2D and 3D CAD files, along with solid models from third-party software, can be batch processed from file preparation through to applying toolpaths, with NC code being generated automatically. In addition, the files create a full report structure, along with labels and bar coding.
