Adapting to New Expectations
When retooling is carried out, an overhauled machine tool is always adapted to new machining processes and components.
After Retrofit … Retooling
Jochen Wiedmann, operations director for MAG in Göppingen: "After a retrofit, retooling is absolutely essential because what is the point of an updated machine if it is going to be run with the same set of tools and use the same processes afterwards? – that would simply hinder the new productivity potential."
Old Machine, Increased Productivity
Retooling gives a boost to productivity: following an overhaul or retrofit and equipped with new tools and processes, high-speed cutting is often possible on "old" machine tools.
"To make sure retooling projects do not produce any unexpected follow-up costs, we make sure that all the required information is included right from the start from all the segments concerned,” explained Axel Moch, sales director - Service at MAG in Göppingen. “Transparency and documentation always play an important role for us in the decision-making process and to ensure cost control."
Crank it Out
Based on its long experience in automotive machining, e.g, for crankshafts on Boehringer machines, MAG is a reliable partner to automotive suppliers, supporting efforts to incease productivity and expand capabilities on established production systems, so that customers have the latest process technology with optimal system configuration.
For example, if a rotating function can also be integrated into a deep-hole boring machine, the customer can save thee capital expense of a new production system. Only one machine would be needed to add the new manufacturing capability, conserving maintenance costs and floor space, as well as investment costs.
The MAG manufacturing technology group has manufacturing, sales and service locations in Germany, China, Hungary, and Switzerland, with notable machine tool brands that include Boehringer, Cross Hüller, Ex-Cell-O, and Lamb.
MAG develops and manufactures machine tools, manufacturing systems, and services for turning, milling, and honing, plus systems integration, automation, software, services, retrofits, core components, and e-learning.
