Kalamazoo Machine Tool completes plant expansion

Feb. 22, 2008

Kalamazoo Machine Tool (www.kmtsaw.com), having experienced steady growth since late 2003, said it completed its newest plant expansion. The addition provides more room for accessory manufacturing in its expanded machine shop, a separate area for welding and painting, a larger spare parts inventory and customer service for the company’s line of metalworking saws.

The new facility encompasses 18,000 sq. ft., with almost 2,000 square feet devoted to office space. As part of the expansion, KMT added more computers and hired an additional employee to handle the increased order entry, invoicing and inventory control work.

KMT imports a range of high-quality European circular and band saw products, then manufactures accessories for those machines and performs special mechanical and electrical modifications to fit the requirements of the North American market. KMT runs and test most machines before they are shipped. The expansion now allows the company to set up several machines in advance, which often facilitates immediate shipping. The larger spare parts inventory now enables the company to ship 98 percent of the parts orders the same day.
