Babcock & Wilcox Wins New Naval Reactor Business

July 16, 2012

The Babcock & Wilcox Company reports that its subsidiary, B&W Nuclear Operations Group Inc. has three new contracts from the U.S. Naval Reactors Program to develop and manufacture products in support of U.S. Navy training operations and other naval nuclear-related programs. It’s the second large assignment this month for the B&W NOG subsidiary from the Navy group: previously, it recorded two orders totaling $82 million to manufacture steam-generating components for U.S. Navy nuclear submarines.

B&W NOG produces all types of nuclear components and offers a full range of services required for the U.S. Navy’s nuclear vessels, including manufacturing of nuclear reactor components for submarines and aircraft carriers, and other nuclear and non-nuclear R&D and component production. The subsidiary has over 3,900 employees at operations in Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, and a subsidiary company in Tennessee.

“B&W NOG is pleased to continue its support of the U.S. Naval Reactors Program with these three new contracts,” stated Peyton S. Baker, president of the B&W subsidiary. “We realize the important role that B&W NOG’s unique development and manufacturing capabilities play in supporting the men and women who serve aboard the U.S. Navy’s fleet.”

The Babcock & Wilcox Company designs machines and systems, and offers services, used in nuclear, fossil and renewable power markets; it also offers advanced technology and services for defense programs.
