Machine Tool & Gear Inc. (www.machinetoolgear.com), which supplies automotive companies with machined and manufactured parts and assemblies, is making a $2.8 million investment in its 114,000 sq. ft. facility in the Corrunna, Mich. Industrial Park.

The company will be purchasing additional equipment and replacing or upgrading older machines, group general manager John Aldrich said. "We found operating in Corunna to be cost effective and it allows us to be competitive in the auto industry," Aldrich said.

The company, which has operated the Corunna plant since 1994, currently employs about 210 people and expects to add 14 employees in the expansion.

Machine Tool & Gear is the largest manufacturing employer in the city and has maintained a stable job base, Justin Horvath, director of the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership, a division of the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce said. "The automotive industry is extremely competitive right now and there are challenges with it, but there are opportunities out there," Horvath said. "This shows a good successful company can still be successful in that industry."
