Pinpoint Laser Systems (www.pinlaser.com) has released a new laser-based system for measuring machinery and production equipment flatness. The system, called Microgage 2D, measures flatness of rolls, moving machinery stages, gantry systems, actuators, and moving equipment to accuracies of 0.0001 in. and operates over spans of a few inches to 120 ft. The Microgage 2D also works for leveling and checking machinery that is exhibiting high-wear symptoms.
Pinpoint Laser says the Microgage 2D is compact, affordable and easy for production and maintenance staff to use directly on manufacturing lines. The system combines a compact laser transmitter with a receiver and digital display. As the laser moves across the receiver in a vertical or horizontal direction, the display provides a reading of the motion, and the system's bright red beam quickly adapts to many industrial applications.
Several simple accessories expand the system's alignment capabilities for machinery straightness, runout, parallelism, squareness, bore alignment, shaft alignment, and much more. The Microgage 2D operates on batteries, and all components are machined of solid aluminum with hard anodized coatings for wear resistance. A sealed, push-button keypad and large LCD make the Microgage 2D easy and convenient to use in demanding industrial environments. A serial and USB interface connect to a laptop or PC and link to popular spreadsheets for plotting and analyzing data for maintenance records, customer compliance, and other uses. This Microgage system also features a variety of mounts and receivers, and it comes with a compact carrying case for traveling out onto the manufacturing floor.
