The National Tooling and Machining Assoc. (NTMA), Ft. Washington, Md., has provided a website for member companies damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The site aims to help them locate job shops for outsourcing work. Other NTMA members posted classified ads describing machine availability.

"We have approximately 40 member companies in these states," says NTMA Operations Director Rob Akers, "and we are working diligently to identify those in need and provide timely assistance."

As Mike Mittler, NTMA vice chairman observed, "Disasters like this highlight how vulnerable we are despite all of our technology."
