New small cutters and inserts from Seco-Carboloy are for high-speed die/mold machining applications including slotting and shoulder milling, ramping, helical interpolation, plunging, pocket milling, and roughing.

The cutters are available as a one-piece design (R217.29/R220.29) or as a two-piece Combimaster system, which includes various shank types and lengths with interchangeable cutter heads. The button cutters have round inserts with an octagonal integrated angle to prevent insert rotation and ensure indexing location. When used with the company's new 6-mm round inserts, the cutters provide a maximum axial-cutting depth of 0.118 in. (3 mm).

Profiling aluminum cutters

Stellram's 5702 cutters produce high metal-removal rates at speeds to 45,000 rpm for pocketing, slotting, and edge milling in aluminum. They are designed, manufactured, and tested according to ISO Standard 15641 and stocked balanced at G 2.5 at 30,000 rpm.

Cutter diameters range from 0.75 to 1.5 in. and 20 to 40 mm. Inserts are available with radii from 0.079 to 0.236 in. (2 to 6 mm).

New wear-resistant coating

An aluminumchromium-nitride (AlCrN) coating developed by Balzers Inc. has high hot hardness and oxidation resistance for increased wear resistance in conventional machining operations and applications involving heavy mechanical and thermal stresses. The Balinit Alcrona G6 coating is for wet or dry machining of unalloyed steels and high-strength, high-hardness (to 54 Rc) steels.

High-feed milling cutter

Twincut Feed milling cutters, from LMT-Fette, are for roughing and semifinishing die/mold materials. The cutters face mill, pocket, and 3D contour in all steels to 45 Rc and work well in plunge milling, ramping, and helical-boring/drilling operations.

The Twincut Feed, with a three-edge insert design that maximizes chip thinning resulting in feedrates to 400 ipm, runs at chip loads to 0.125 in./tooth. Reportedly, metal-removal rates are 2 to 3 higher than with conventional button cutters.
