Nordex USA Inc. has two new orders from RPM Access LLC to supply a total of 35 wind turbines for two farms in Iowa. RPM Access is a wind farm developer and operator with 530 MW of generating capacity installed at wind farms across Iowa. The new orders will be installed at the Hawkeye Wind Farm in Fayette County and Rippey Wind Farm in Green County.
The value of the contract was not announced.
Nordex USA is a subsidiary of the German company that is among the world’s largest manufacturers of wind power systems. Its $40-million manufacturing plant in Jonesboro, Ark., began production in late 2010, producing nacelles for Nordex’ N90 and N100 turbines. Nordex has previously indicated it will assemble rotor blades at that site, with a total capital investment projected at $100 million.
The N100/2500 is a 2.5-MW, IEC-2 and IEC-3 –certified wind turbine for moderate and low wind conditions. It is among the largest turbines Nordex builds. The new orders will bring Nordex’ capacity installed in Iowa to 130 MW.
Construction is underway at both locations, and deliveries of the new turbines scheduled for May 2012 at Rippey and June 2012 for Hawkeye. Operation at both sites is set to begin by October 2012.
“Nordex has consistently demonstrated the ability to act quickly, flexibly and responsively. Our trust in them and in the quality of their proven 2.5 MW product platform convinced us that they were the right turbine supply partner for these important projects,” stated Stephen Dryden, a principal with RPM Access.
Nordex said that by the end of this year it will have 447.5 MW of generating capacity installed in the U.S., at wind farms in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Idaho and Iowa.
