New air disc brake technology for commercial trucks in Brazil

WABCO Holdings Inc. has a contract to supply a diesel engine manufacturer with new exhaust brakes for truck engines that will conform to the Euro V emission standard.

The EU’s vehicle emission standard measures nitrogen oxides, total hydrocarbons, non-methane hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter. The fifth stage of standards for heavy-duty diesel engines took effect in late 2008, and for light commercial vehicle diesel engines since 2009.

The engines concerned in WABCO’s new contract will be installed on medium-duty commercial trucks, also manufactured in Brazil. The name of the customer was not revealed.

WABCO develops technologies and control systems for commercial vehicles, including electronic, mechanical and mechatronic technologies for braking, stability and transmission automation systems.

WABCO’s Compression and Braking division produces air disc brakes, actuators, air compressors, and air processing units for commercial vehicles. Its exhaust brake technology controls an engine's ability to push out compression, thereby increasing braking power and braking efficiency.

"This new agreement marks yet another series adoption of WABCO's innovative exhaust brake technology as we continue to globalize solutions which help manufacturers to deliver safer, cleaner, greener commercial vehicles in every region of the world," stated Reynaldo Contreira, who heads WABCO South America.
