New VMC Series Designed for Moldmaking
Hyundai WIA identified shops and manufacturers producing molds as one area for emphasis in the design of its vertical machines, which now includes a series of bridge-type machines that achieve spindle speeds up to 40,000 rpm, offer through-spindle coolant, and simultaneous 5-axis capability, to achieve the high rigidity and low-heat generating characteristics that support precision moldmaking. New Strategies for Roughing, Mill-Turn Machining
A new series of strategies for 2.5D roughing is highlighted by Delcam as the main addition to its FeatureCAM 2012 in the latest release of that machining program, including a continuous spiral option that minimizes wear on the cutter and machine tool. FeatureCAM 2012 R2 also includes high-speed roughing options, like trochoidal machining; a patented Race Line Machining feature; and “tear-drop” moves to clear corners more smoothly. Updates Promote GibbsCAM-SolidWorks Integration
CNC software developer Gibbs and Associates indicated several new capabilities in its GibbsCAM program provide “seamless integration” with the SolidWorks CAD platform, simplifying the task of machining parts developed with that design software. This includes GibbsCAM’s ability to read and preserve features from SolidWorks files, and the ability to update machining processes automatically when a change is made to a SolidWorks file (or solid.) Accuride to Emphasize Machining in $75-Milion Program
The commercial truck wheel manufacturer aims to increase production capacity and manufacturing processes for its Accuride Wheels business, according to the group’s president and CEO.
