Boeing Assigns New Work to Landing Gear Specialist

Héroux-Devtek to fabricate torque tubes for Dreamliner as production rate builds Multi-year contract award Vertical lift, minimizing weight and torque

Héroux-Devtek Inc., the specialty manufacturer of aerospace landing gears, earned a new multi-year contract to manufacture torque tubes for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The assignment represents new business for Héroux-Devtek, with production starting in 2015 at the company’s plant in Laval, Quebec.

The value of and length of the new work assignment were not indicated.

Héroux-Devtek specializes in design, manufacturing, and repair and overhaul of landing gear and aerospace actuation systems and components. It is among the world’s largest producers of landing gear to commercial and military aircraft OEMs, as well as aftermarket products and service. It also manufactures electronic enclosures, heat exchangers, and cabinets for suppliers of airborne radar, electro-optic systems, and aircraft controls.

Boeing reportedly has a record volume of orders for new plane construction, with output rates increasing at assembly plants in Washington and South Carolina. Production of the 787, for example, will increase from 10 per month currently to 12 per month in 2016.

Torque tubes are used in various ways, including driveline technology and landing gear systems, to lift system parts vertically while minimizing part weight and torque reaction, to increase system productivity.

“This important multi-year contract further strengthens our business relationship with Boeing and provides Héroux-Devtek with additional content on a growing program,” stated Gilles Labbé, president and CEO of Héroux-Devtek.

He continued: “We have been manufacturing torque tubes for the Boeing 777 and the Boeing 737 for many years and this new contract for the 787 reaffirms our status as an important supplier of quality products and services to original equipment manufacturers.”
