Thermal-friction drilling

Thermal friction drilling systems from Flowdrill Inc. (www.flowdrill.com) produce perfectly formed collars in malleable metals by using a combination of speed of rotation and pressure to locally heat the material. A Flowdrill thermal friction drill spins and creates heat, which allows it to penetrate and reform displaced material in seconds. Displaced material then forms a collar on the upper side of the workpiece for deeper threads, or a flat-type Flowdrill tool can produce holes without the collar.
