Climax Portable Machining & Welding Systems Outer-Diameter-Mount Flange Facers offer operator safety and application versatility.

Climax Portable Machining & Welding Systems has a new line of tools designed to handle small-flange facing more safely, with efficiency and cost effectiveness. In addition, the Outer-Diameter-Mount Flange Facer series includes features that will increase productivity and minimize downtime associated with flange repairs, especially in the oil and gas, chemical and power generation industries.

“Our new OD-mount flange facers are the most flexible and versatile machines on the market,” according to Climax president and CEO Geoff Gilmore. “Not only will these new products give operators much more flexibility than other machines, they also completely change the game when it comes to operator safety.”

The developer explained the CE-certified devices are “engineered for safety, setting a new standard for keeping operators safe and productive.” Most important in this respect: the feed control is located on the outside of machine, keeping the operator’s hands away from moving parts and preventing injuries. Also, an emergency stop allows for quick stops and controlled restarts, while a low-pressure drop-out feature prevents unintended re-starts after loss of supplied air pressure.

Machining time for small flanges can be decreased by as much as 30 percent, Climax noted. Automatic feed comes standard for both radial and axial feed. With no need for an operator to advance the feed manually, machining can be done at much higher RPMs if desired.

The first model available is the 0-12 inch (0-304.8 mm) model, the FF1200 OD Mount Flange Facer. The FF1200 has a machining range up to 12.5 inches (317.5 mm) and is particularly useful for compact flanges commonly used in the North Sea.

Feed rates on the FF1200 are adjustable while the machine is running. There is no need to change feed direction, stop the machine, or replace parts to adjust the feed rate. The tool head comes with three presets for common machining angles and is infinitely adjustable to any angle desired.

A wide range of machining options are included in all models of the new line of OD-mount flange facers. With no extra attachments required, Climax OD-mount flange facers can machine seven types of flanges: flat face, raised face, ring-type joints (RTJ), tongue & groove, lens ring, Grayloc® and compact flanges.

“Part of the Climax DNA is our ability to find creative and innovative solutions for customers,” according to Gilmore. “Our OD Mount Flange Facers are built to last and are backed by the Climax commitment to creating the highest quality machining, welding, and testing tools on the market.”
