Machine tool builder to introduce 10 new models this fall

Machine tool builder Mazak Corp. has attained ISO 9001:2008 certification for its Florence, Ky., manufacturing plant. The facility previously held ISO 9001:2000 certification, obtained in 2003.

Mazak’s ISO 9001:2008 certification applies to its production operations, including the design and manufacture of CNC machines, spindle rebuilds and remanufacturing at the Florence plant.

The Florence plant produces Mazak’s Nexus vertical machining centers and turning centers with multi-tasking capabilities. Mazak will introduce 10 new models from this plant this fall.

“Because of Mazak’s constant dedication to excellence in quality standards, we would already undertake all of the actions necessary to receive ISO 9001:2008 certification,” says Brian Papke, president of Mazak. “Documenting our processes and having them undergo the certification process is a way of demonstrating to our customers our commitment to providing the highest quality and reliability in our Nexus CNC machines.”

ISO 9001:2008 certification is similar to ISO 9001:2000 certification, which it is replacing. Several restrictions have been tightened and language has been added or changed to provide additional clarification.
