Less Electrode Wear

The G control eliminates the need for multiple EDM electrodes.

The wear rate of a graphite electrode increases during the sinker EDM finishing process, so shops often rough out a workpiece cavity on a mill then EDM the details to finished size.

However, this process usually requires separate electrodes for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing to compensate for electrode wear.

To eliminate the need for multiple electrodes, Sodick Inc. offers its new G control that minimizes electrode wear for the company’s line of die sinker EDMs. Sodick said the control reduces electrode wear to less than 0.1 percent while increasing machining speeds by as much as 20 percent. The G control is standard on Sodick’s AQ series of sinker EDMs
