Houston-based G&H Diversified has added a new Mitsubishi EDM BA24 wire electrical discharge machine (EDM) with 16.5-in. Z height, in response to its customers’ product needs. G&H has grown to 95 employees and develops components for demanding industrial segments, including oil-and-gas exploration, with engineers working to exceed customers’ expectations through technology and custom machinery.

G&H Diversified has been producing wire EDM tooling and parts since 1989. The shop has some of the latest wire EDM machines available, and not only manufactures its own tooling, but also creates tooling for customers, acting as their wire EDM suppliers. Turnaround time on wire EDM projects is one of the quickest in the industry.

Mitsubishi EDM’s BA24 system features a new upper- and lower-head design for better durability and lower costs for set-up and maintenance. Its new auto-threading and wire drive systems have been simplified to reduce part costs and extend maintenance cycles. The machine’s multi-axis and EDM automation capabilities achieve top manufacturing efficiency, the supplier explains, and the 16.5-in. Z height allows GH to process the tall parts that are commonly in demand for the oil-and-gas drilling industry.

“We want to become a main resource for wire EDM work; that is why we partnered with Mitsubishi, the leader in EDM technology,” according to Bobby McIntire, marketing and sales manager. “This new machine improves our production and gives us great capability to do tall EDM parts. We are very excited to get this machine going.”

The BA24 machine features new V350 power supply with anti-electrolysis technology, which helps it to achieve the Mitsubishi EDM high-performance machining standards. The new PM4 (Power Master 4) control enables full automation from rough to finish machining. PM4’s stepped shape capabilities allow multiple parts with different shapes and thickness to be machined without setting specific electrical conditions. SL (Step Less) Control improves accuracy for finishing step shape workpieces.

The new machine is supplied with 0.006~0.012 in.-wire capable automatic threading and all-axis absolute control as standard features, which enables highly accurate positioning without returning to zero after power failure.
