When used with Helido carbide inserts, HSM inserts deliver smooth cutting action with low cutting forces.

Iscar said its new family of High Speed Milling (HSM) adjustable endmills and facemills improves milling of aluminum, non-metallics, cast iron and hardened steel, especially in automotive and aerospace applications.

The dynamically balanced cutters are for work with polycrystalline diamond (PCD) or cubic boron nitride (CBN) inserts, protecting their edges and delivering fine surface finishes. They also accommodate standard HSM-rated Helido 2000 carbide inserts.

In both the endmills and facemills, internal coolant holes ensure a cooler cutting face while improving chip evacuation and resistance to built-up edge. Insert pockets in the cutters feature a flexible rear stopper that can be adjusted by a slanted screw, enabling axial positioning of the cutting edge within 0.002 mm (0.00008 in.).

Endmills, designated E90AD, are available with HSK A63 shanks in four diameters from 25 mm to 50 mm (1.00 in. to 2.00 in.). Facemills, designated F90AD, cover the 50-mm to 80-mm (2.00-in. to 3.00-in.) diameter range, also in four sizes.

All Tangslit and Tang-Grip inserts are available in J- or C-type chipformer geometries.

Iscar also introduced high-performance Tangslit TGSF slitting tools that combine the convenience and security of Tang-Grip clamping with the added durability of the new Sumo Tec insert grades.

In the Tang-Grip clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets with a special hand tool, and are held securely in place without clamps, upper jaws or set screws that can weaken the insert and impede chip flow. The pocket design uses cutting forces to keep the insert seated securely in position, eliminating any risk of insert pullout. This system is designed to foster more accurate slitting cuts plus longer pocket and insert life.

Sumo Tec insert grades feature a postcoating treatment that are designed to improvestool life and reliability.

The treatment smoothes the insert’s coated surface to eliminate microscopic stress raisers, reduce heat and friction and improve chip flow.

The result is improved toughness and resistance to chipping and built-up edge, all leading to longer tool life. The golden-colored flank on the inserts facilitates wear detection.

Tangslit TGSF cutters come in 100-mm to 160-mm (3.937-in. to 6.300 in.) diameters, 3-mm and 4-mm (0.118-in. to 0.157 in.) widths and can accommodate the same selection of inserts as Tang-Grip parting tools.

New DR indexable drills from Iscar handle larger diameters.

Iscar also introduced a new range of DR indexable twist drills that cover the 61-mm to 80-mm (2.375-in. to 3.15 in.) diameter range expanding the range of the entire family to cover diameters from 14 mm to 80 mm (0.551 in. to 3.15 in.).

Key applications include automotive and aerospace manufacturing and die and moldmaking.

Available in whole metric sizes, the new drills come with interchangeable shims to change hole diameters. The shims fit under the insert cartridge and can be changed in minutes.

The new large DR drills accommodate 10-mm, 11-mm and 12-mm square inserts. The inserts, available with two chipformer types, are available in three grades: IC 808 and 908 for low alloy steel, stainless steel and high temperature alloys; and IC 8080 for cast iron and steel.

Iscar Minicut grooving tools stand up to high machining rates in applications prone to high tool-failure rates.

A family of small face grooving and turning tools from Iscar—Minicut MIFR 8 inserts and tools — incorporate a design and clamping system that the company said prolongs tool life.

The inserts are rigidly screw clamped into a long pocket in the toolbar.

The inserts and toolbars cover the diameter range from 8 mm to 17 mm (0.315 in. to 0.669 in.), and grooving depths to 5.5 mm (0.216 in.). With this new size range, together with their Picco and Chamgroove tools, Iscar now offers a complete line of face grooving tools for diameters from 6 mm.

As a result of its unique geometry and internal coolant delivery, the Minicut grooving tool delivers uninterrupted chip flow that can be safely used for grooving in deep holes. It can also handle rotating applications, functioning like a single point trepanning tool.

Inserts, in hard, fine-grain grade IC 908 for high chipping resistance, are available in widths from 1.5 mm to 2.2 mm (0.060 in. to 0.087 in.).

Iscar’s HM90 APCR chip-splitting inserts are for rough milling of aluminum.

Also new from Iscar are chipsplitting inserts for rough milling of aluminum, where chips can pile up like snowballs. The company said its new inserts can put an end to chip jamming problems.

They have grooves pressed into each polished cutting face, to split aluminum chips into manageable sizes for easy evacuation despite the application’s characteristic high chip volume.

The 22-mm inserts, each with two edges, are designed to optimize metal removal over the full range of aluminum roughing conditions, from high power/low speed to high power/high speed.

They are designed to work with Iscar’s new HM90 EAL/FAL…22 aluminum rough milling cutters. Besides reliably clearing chips, the company said the inserts conserve power and reduce chatter in longoverhang setups.

The inserts have a cavity on the bottom to ensure correct mounting in cutter chip pockets equipped with standard spring pins. For optimum chip control, the company recommends using the HM90 APCR chip-splitting insert only in cutters with an even number of flutes.
