Digital Read-Out Finish Boring Head

Feb. 16, 2012
Easy, precision adjustments on the fly
The boring head’s digital features include a power management system for optimal battery life and an automatic switch-off function, which automatically saves the most recently displayed value. With its built-in digital display unit, the BIG Kaiser’s Series 112 EWD 2-54 digital precision finish boring head allows machine operators to make precise adjustments to the boring process “on the fly,” according to the developer. The digital insert uses accessories from the Kaiser EWN 2-50XL series, and the boring head offers through-tool coolant supply, achieving maximum spindle speed of 20,000 RPM.

BIG Kaiser Precision Tooling designs high-precision tooling systems for the brands Kaiser, BIG Daishowa, Speroni, Unilock, Sphinx and other brands, and indicates its products are developed with a focus on “extreme accuracy and repeatability.”

The Series 112 EWD 2-54 head has a Kaiser KA6 modular connection, and allows absolute-setting accuracy. An on-board electronic measurement system in the tool carrier allows for high-precision diameter adjustments for the boring range of Ø0.079 to 2.126 in. A single button operates the digital readout.

The boring head’s digital features include a power management system for optimal battery life and an automatic switch-off function, which automatically saves the most recently displayed value. The coated tool body protects against corrosion, and a seal rating of IP 69K (the highest rating possible) ensures that the internal components are protected in the most extreme environments.

The large, high-contrast display relates diameter corrections at a resolution of 0.00005 in./Ø, or 0.001mm/Ø on metric heads. The tool carrier’s measuring system shows the effective movement of the cutting edge and permits diameter corrections in both directions.

“By making the readout easy to read, adjust, and use, the Series 112 EWD 2-54 digital precision boring head will ensure accuracy while eliminating operating errors — saving time and labor,” stated Jack Burley, BIG Kaiser v.p. - sales and engineering.
