Minitang high production T490 LNMX 0804 PN-R milling inserts from Iscar Metals Inc. (www.iscarmetals.com)have four, helical, 0.315-in.-long cutting edges with positive rake angles, and the tangentially clamped design of the company's larger Tangmill tools. Due to their small size and the tangential orientation in their pockets, the tools have a larger core diameter than conventional, radially oriented inserts.
Iscar says its T490 E90LN endmills machine 90-degree shoulders at high feed rates with no mismatch. With Minitang tools, the endmills also can be used for side plunging. The inserts are available in diameters from 0.625 in. to 1.5 in., T490 E90LN endmills come with either coarse or fine-pitch configurations in each diameter.
