For operations producing large volumes of waste particles, such as aluminum cutting, rubber grinding, plastic machining, wood planing or shaping, and pencil manufacturing, Sternvent Co. Inc., Bogota, N.J., offers motorized rotor airlock discharges for its line of cyclone dust collectors.
The airlock provides an airtight seal at the bottom of the cyclone and constantly discharges particulate that the cyclone separates from an air stream. This cast iron or welded-steel airlock, which is similar in concept to a revolving officebuilding entrance door, but on a horizontal axis, ranges from 8 to 14 in. in diameter and is powered by a 2-hp motor. Also available is a remote motor controller with pilot lights and a delay timer that allows the airlock to remain on for 30 sec after the blower is off, so particulate conveys out of the ducts and cyclone.
