A 150-ton-rated press from Greenerd improves productivity and enhances operator safety at Rheem Manufacturing.
Rheem Manufacturing Air Conditioning Division of Fort Smith, Ark., needed to replace a mechanical press to improve productivity and enhance operator safety. The manufacturer of central heating and cooling products decided that a large-bed hydraulic press would do the trick.
The company took delivery of a 150-ton-rated press from Greenerd Press & Machine Co., a custom and standard hydraulic-press builder. The press's 144-in.-wide 3 48-in. front-to-back bed and ram size with daylight of 24 in. and 18-in. stroke significantly increases Rheem's production capacity and lets operators center load dies within the press. A 6-in. color touchscreen stores all press parameters for up to 150 programs to streamline operations.
For operational safety, the press features front and rear light-curtain guarding with blanking capabilities for running a coil feeder. Impact dampening of the main ram provides stability, and the large bed size ensures all operations are performed within the press frame for additional safety.
"Greenerd's professionalism and keen interest in conforming to our stringent specifications and quality/ performance requirements was extremely important to Rheem," says Larry Gant, a manufacturing engineer at Rheem. "Greenerd was also a great help to our understanding the operational details of the large-bed press it supplied," he adds.
