B.C. Barton programs its presswork and fabrication processes 30% faster with JetCam Expert software.

UK-based B.C. Barton Ltd., a provider of design and manufacturing solutions for hot and cold presswork and weldedfabrication products, recently migrated from Camtek's Peps Fab CAM software to JetCam Expert. The company did so as a result of Camtek and JetCam becoming part of the same business group. In addition to a seamless installation and transition, Barton experienced several other benefits from the switch. The company immediately benefited from the new software's functionality. Programming time dropped 30% thanks to automatic features and a reduction of repetitive processes by using the software's Stored Engineering Knowledge Technology (SEKT) databases. And operator sheet printouts fell in-line with how the company works.

After installing JetCam, Barton trained one user who, in turn, delivered in-house training for others. Says David Bolton, a Barton programmer/operator trained in-house: "I had no experience of CAD/CAM software, but was up and running quickly. It (the software) was easy to learn and gave me as much or as little control as I wanted. For instance, I frequently use the commonline-cutting function, but I can tool a job manually if, perhaps, I am tooling close to a clamp."

As a company constantly on the lookout for ways to reduce costs and boost efficiency, Barton subscribed to an ongoing maintenance contract with Press and Shear Ltd. in the UK for technical support and several yearly, free software updates. "These updates always have new features that are of benefit," points out Bolton, "whether it's a function that speeds programming of a nest or running it on the machine. Even minor features, such as modifications to zoom facilities, improve the system. And when it comes to support, our questions are answered right away."
