WorkNC-CAD Electrode software for designing, extracting, and machining EDM electrodes reportedly saves users up to 40% in preparation and cutting times. This module is part of WorkNC Version 17.

The direct selection of surfaces and 2D curves projected onto CAD models define electrodes. Users merely build electrodes for machining by choosing blanks, holders, and extensions from the software's library.

Its electrode-origin specification lets shops use the same machining data for positioning in the eroding process, maintaining accuracy and repeatability when using standard fixturing. WorkNC-CAD also checks for electrode collisions within the job.

The software automatically creates WorkNC Workzones for each electrode, so shops can apply predefined machining operations to them and

generate toolpaths with a key stroke to minimize lead times. For delicate and intricate electrodes, WorkNC's thin-wall- machining operation applies both roughing and finishing toolpaths layer by layer. This prevents distortion by minimizing cutting forces on thin electrodes and maximizing their rigidity during the machining process.
