Forger expands supplier relationship with Meritor

Sypris Technologies Inc. and Sisamex are forming a new long-term supply agreement, in which Sypris will produce drivetrain components for the commercial vehicle axle plant that Sisamex operates in Escobedo, Mexico. Details of the components to be supplied and the terms of the agreement were not released.

Louisville-based Sypris is subsidiary of Sypris Solutions Inc. that forges axle shafts for truck and off-highway vehicle manufacturing, as well as numerous varieties of press forgings weighing from five to 500 pounds. The latter includes ring gears, pinions, helical gears, input shafts, spindles, jet engine shafts, and piston cylinders.

Sisamex is a joint venture of Quimmco and Meritor Inc. that manufactures axles, brakes, and other components and assemblies for heavy- and medium-duty trucks. The products are supplied through Meritor to OEMs like Daimler Truck, International, Kenworth, Mercedes-Benz, and Meritor, among others.

Earlier this year Sypris and Meritor (at that time known as ArvinMeritor) established a long-term supply agreement whereby Sypris manufactures drivetrain components to Meritor for its axle assembly operation in Brazil.

“We are pleased to expand our strategic relationship with Sisamex, which has grown progressively over the years,” commented Sypris president Paul Larochelle, concerning the new agreement. “We will continue to support Sisamex with advanced manufacturing systems to ensure that this important customer continues to benefit from world-class quality, on-time delivery and cost-competitive products.”
