Business jet contract stretches first-half 2011 business toward 2010 total

CPI Aerostructures Inc. has logged new purchase orders from Spirit AeroSystems Inc. for wing leading-edge assemblies on the Gulfstream G650 aircraft. Since March 2008, CPI Aero and Spirit have had a long-term supply agreement for the assemblies, and the new contract extends CPI Aero’s order backlog through July 2012.

The new order brings CPI Aero’s 2011 new business total from all customers to $54.7 million, versus $9.5 million for the same period of 2010 and $61.7 million for all of 2010.

CPI Aero is an Edgewood, N.Y., contract manufacturer of structural aircraft parts for defense contractors and the U.S. Dept. of Defense. It also subcontracts manufacturing work for commercial aircraft parts, such as Spirit AeroSystems. The company provides engineering, technical and program management services.

Spirit AeroSystems designs and manufactures the G650 wing for Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. The Gulfstream G650 is a large-cabin twin-engine business jet.

CPI Aero CEO and president Edward J. Fred stated: “As we continue to demonstrate our assembly capabilities to Spirit, we hope to be considered for additional opportunities for assemblies on this platform."
