Commercial Vehicle Group Inc. broke ground on Wednesday for its new manufacturing plant in Saltillo, Mexico, anticipating a start-up in March 2012. The operation is being built under an agreement with Daimler Trucks North America LLC, and it will supply a range of parts for that company’s assembly plants in Saltillo and Santiago, Mexico, and three U.S. plants.
CVG produces fully integrated systems commercial vehicle OEMS worldwide, including heavy-duty trucks, construction and agricultural vehicles, and specialty and military transports. For DTNA, CVG’s Mexican plant will produce air-suspension and static seats; formed flooring systems, thermoformed plastics, and injection-molded hard and soft trim interior components, such as headliners, back walls and curtains.
The parts will be used on several DTNA models, including the Cascadia, Columbia, Western Star and M2 platform-based vehicles.
The 159,550-square foot CVG installation — Comercial Vehicle Group Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V. — will be a three-building campus, with each building focused on a different and specific production process.
Mervin Dunn, CVG president and CEO, said the new plant, “located in the same industrial park as Daimler, will help us better serve the needs of Daimler as a major and valued CVG customer. We also feel it will also allow us participate in a low-cost production area and, at the same time, explore new business opportunities in this area of the world."
