USEC ’s American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, will consist of 2,700 tons of steel, 113,000 cu.-ft. of concrete, 990 miles of wire and cable, 65 miles of plumbing and an amazing 1.7 million sq.-ft. under roof — that’s about 30 football fields.

The facility will house numerous centrifuges for enriching uranium, and will be the only such plant that is U.S. owned and U.S. operated. The plant is modular and, thanks to USEC’s new centrifuge technology, easily expandable to meet growing future demands. Plus the process consumes 95 percent less electricity as compared with other enrichment methods such as gaseous diffusion.
