Editors were criticizing Christian Dior in the November 22, 1954, issue — or more precisely, his latest designs for women's clothing. They felt the new trend toward long strings of beads, tassels, sashes, and other "dangling and protruding gadgets" presented a real safety problem. Their main concern was that women would catch such hanging decorations in machinery.

Strangely enough, editors didn't mention how many female workers were dressing in such designer attire on the shop floor.
