A heavy-duty, one-piece waycover protects the Bluestar 5 HMC's ways and linear scales from chip contamination, while two spiral conveyors double chip-removal capacity. The machine comes with a 40-position, disk-type tool magazine with #40 ANSI B5.50, BT40, SK40, or HSK63 tool tapers. An optional cassette-style tool magazine with 130 positions is available.

The Bluestar provides rapid-traverse rates of 50 m/min with an acceleration of 7 m/sec. Two motorized spindles are available for the machine — a 10,000-rpm spindle for machining steel and a 15,000-rpm spindle that handles high-speed applications. Its 180° pallet changer exchanges pallets with 1,102-lb capacities in 7 sec.
