Sandvik Coromant has introduced the CoroMill 316 - a new “split-tool” endmill system designed for small to medium diameters ranging from 0.375 in. to 1.00 in. The company said the high-performance tools, with a unique interface between an exchangeable cutting-tool head and shank, provide high stiffness for full-slot roughing and offer high accuracy for precision finishing operations.
The tool’s head can be easily tightened by the slight turn of a key. Users also benefit from the endmill’s design that enables the head to be changed in the machine without removing the tool shank or further pre-setting of the cutting edge.
Based on Sandvik Coromant’s CoroMill Plura geometries, CoroMill 316 is balanced by design and includes twin-blade and multi-flute cutters. The range can be combined with the company’s other cutting products, including the GC 1030 grade insert.

Also recently introduced by Sandvik Coromant is its CoroMill 345 for face cutting with small depths of cut in steel and stainless steel. The tool offers high performance across a spectrum of applications ranging from small-batch, mixed machining to high-volume dedicated production lines.
As part of a new generation of 45-degree facemills, the tool has double-sided inserts that provide four edges on each side. The new tool offers full cutting edge backing and insert-seat stability through shims with strategic support islands that match insert rake faces. The tool is suitable for a variety of operations from roughing to mirror-finishing
with wiper inserts.
With a more positive axial inclination at small depths of cut, the CoroMill 345 offers a soft cutting action with low axial pressure on the workpiece. As the depth of cut increases, a more upright part of the cutting edge is engaged, giving the insert a more substantial structure for high security.
This works well in a variety of machine tools, from small, low-powered machines to large multi-task machining centers. Tools come in diameters from 2.00 in. to 10.00 in. (40 mm to 250 mm).
