What's old is new again
02/17/2006

Instead of discarding worn crankshaft-grinding wheels, I re-use them for a variety of other parts such as axles, camshafts and gearshafts. Crankshaft manufacturing requires large-diameter wheels for pin and journal grinding, and for heavy-duty truck crankshafts, grinding-wheel diameters measure as large as 1,000 mm (39.37 in.). These wheels are usable down to 700 mm (27.56 in.) in diameter, which is about the same size as the new wheels I use for grinding other parts. The worn wheels perform like new with just a few minor modifications for width and form.
