Ford Motor Co. Chairman and CEO Bill Ford, in a recent employee meeting, unveiled a plan to produce 250,000 hybrid vehicles annually by 2010. The event was held at Ford's Scientific Research Laboratory.

The auto manufacturer plans to have more than half of the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury lineup equipped for hybrid capability by 2010. The company anticipates increasing hybrid production to about 250,000 units annually.

Ford currently produces about 24,000 hybrids, including the Escape hybrid SUV. It expects to have five hybrids on the road — the Escape, Ford Fusion, Mercury Mariner and Milan and the Mazada Tribute — by 2008.
