Whirling machine tackles A-typical screws
10/11/2005

Leistritz Thommen's PW-190L whirling machine sports a torque motor system that eliminates belt drives and gear boxes that typically improve the power curve with standard asynchronous AC motors. This system delivers 4,500 rpm, which reportedly improves surface finishes and tool life. The system's narrow profile has an additional benefit of screw whirling with helix angles as large as 50°. This allows the machine to tackle screws or worms not normally good candidates for whirling.
